My Kitchen

My kitchen
I truly believe that the kitchen is the heart of the house… it has the power to bring a family together and most ancient cultures truly revolve around food. In fact in my mind human evolution has revolved and has been spurred on by our need for food. And given we no longer eat to live, food and the quality and diversity of it has become very important. Most of us in the developed world are lucky to enjoy good quality food…it not only sustains the body, but also fulfils the soul - I have so many beautiful memories attached to food… In fact I only started cooking in earnest because I missed my mum’s cooking when I first arrived in Australia as a student, and decided to replicate the dishes I missed. Because of the time difference, it wasn’t always feasible to call her to get the recipes, so I created my own using my intuition and taste buds as a guide. Once I tasted success in addition to the food, there was no looking back, and I was truly hooked, I started cooking for my friends, flat mates and colleagues on a regular basis. And I think the real reason I love cooking is because of the endless joy (perhaps even pride) that it brings when food prepared by me is enjoyed by my family and friends.
Food I think is an expression of love and ones feelings for family and friends are manifested through the food they prepare for their loved ones. My aim here is to share with you recipes and dishes I prepare in my kitchen. Some of them are no fuss, simple staples, while there are others that I prepare on special occassions or when I am really in the mood for cooking up a big storm. I hope I can influence as many individuals as I can to give takeaway meals a miss once in a while and try your hand at cooking and experience firsthand the joy it can bring.
